This month, on the sacred, auspicious day of Buddha Jayanti, or Vesak, the Samye School hosted a community gathering for the traditional practices, including the Buddha bathing ritual, observed on this day. With Phakchok Rinpoche conduction the Vesak pujas for the Ka-Nying Ling Dharma Society of Kuala Lumpur, the Samye School invited Khenpo Gyaltsen and Kyabje Khenpo to preside over the ceremonies.
All of the monastery’s monks, monastic and lay instructors and staff attended as well as family and community members. As is traditional in Nepal and other Asian countries, our monks participated in the reverential and celebratory procession through the streets of the Chapagaon. This concluded with butter lamp offerings, aspirations and prayers in front a Buddha Shakyamuni statue recently offered to Phakchok Rinpoche’s Do-Ngak Ling temple, adjacent to the Samye School.
